Dangereux

Imagine yourself, 19 years old, in the ball turret of a Flying Fortress. German flak rips through the number two engine. Flames engulf the glass and steel turret from which you hang beneath the belly of the plane, nearly 30,000 feet in the air. Your bomber, on fire, and laden with 500 pound bombs, might explode in an instant and rain like fire down the sky. You must scramble out of the turret to clip on your parachute—something you’ve never been trained to use. Your oxygen hose disconnects and, at such a high altitude, you black out. When you come to, the plane dives into a death spiral, the centrifugal force so great you’re stuck like an insect to the fuselage, unable to save yourself.

Dangereux is the true story of C. Van Selus, a World War II aviator, shot down over occupied-France, his journey across France to escape the Nazis, and the young French woman who poses as his bride at German checkpoints.
